PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Inspired by a deep and profound curiosity in Buddhist spirituality and Tibetan Thangka (scroll paintings) paintings, each piece in this series is a deity based on historical works. These Gods represent psychological aspects of the human condition. Each work seeks to convey a philosophical teaching through its narrative. The images are constructed using traditional Tibetan techniques and measurements for Buddhist iconography.

My intention is to develop images combining both eastern and western influences. I like to use bold aggressive color combinations, layered patterns, and reflectivity using varnishes, gold and silver leaf. Juxtaposed are elements and objects in order to create deep symbolic meaning. The Sacred Images paintings include modern references such as oil derricks to create a pop like images where contemporary art meets historic and east meets west in paint.
