BIOGRAPHY
Barbara Sutherland is a recent graduate of the Alberta College of Art and Design having received a BFA with distinction. She has been the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships including the Governor Generals Academic Medal and the Board of Governors Award (both ACAD).
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
In this residency, Barbara has set out to combine bookbinding and printmaking techniques to create a series of small books. Using photographs as references, she is recreating the images as prints using linocut, dry point on Plexiglas, and woodcut. Non-toxic, water based inks are being used to print the images which will be bound using a variety of bookbinding techniques that the artist has wanted to explore and develop.
Barbara’s goal has been to create a small edition of artist’s books while expanding her knowledge of book binding processes through ongoing investigation.
