Alexandra Emberley
CAAF Residency, July – August 2023
Alexandra Emberley is an interdisciplinary artist with a focus on textiles. The garments Alexandra creates draw inspiration from myth, fable, or nursery rhyme, as well as sources drawn from archives, found objects, detritus, and personal memory. She brings these elements together through an investigation of colour, pattern and materiality, using techniques including embroidery, felting, digital printing, silk-screen, natural dyeing, and tailoring. She has an MFA Textiles, from the Rhode Island School of Design, an MFA Printmaking from the University of Alberta, and a PhD in Language Culture & Teaching from York University Toronto.
