Jamie-Lee Girodat
CAAF Residency, October – December 2021
Jamie-Lee recently completed her final year of the Master of Fine Arts program in Printmaking at the University of Alberta. Her interest in genetic history, disease, and ethics regarding advancing medical technology informs her practice in print media, drawing, ceramics, and animation.
Choosing to use genetic engineering in conception has benefits but also raises questions about the ethical implications involved in altering biology. Jamie-Lee’s practice involves investigating these debates. During her residency, she will invite dialogue that questions what it means to be human through depicting ridiculous, exaggerated, and sometimes uncomfortable images. She plans to develop an extensive, interconnected installation that combines projection-mapped animation with drawings.
