Laura Admussen

Laura Admussen

CAAF Residency, April – June 2021

During Laura’s residency she will be working on several pieces that are directly inspired by the neighbourhoods of Inglewood and Ramsay. Her work will be informed by existing maps of the area, the landscapes, found materials, and personal experiences exploring these environments. The information that she gathers will then be abstracted and translated into different mediums. The resulting artworks will be unconventional representations of place that consist of interpretive shapes, experimental forms and mysterious symbols that blur the line between the real and the imaginary.

Laura will be utilizing printmaking, sculpture, textile, and fibre-based processes to create outdoor site-specific pieces along with additional artworks intended for indoor installation. The site-specific pieces will be made with the intent of providing an unexpected moment of curiosity and amusement for individuals in the area to stumble upon. Overall, she hopes to engage the viewer’s imagination by presenting new ways of viewing and experiencing the various features of this shared space in the city.
