CAAF Residency @cSPACE, February – March 2020

Open Studio: Thursday, March 12, 2020 from 6:00 to 9:00pm

Suite #435 – 1721 29 Ave SW, Calgary, AB T2T 6T7

In her project “Playtime in the Clayground”, Mabel will develop a body of work that will express ‘how-to’ have fun. Being raised in a Singaporean household with both English and Mandarin languages, she is interested in how play is expressed in both languages, and whether she can discover a collaborative language to celebrate play. Using the strokes of Chinese characters, Mabel intends to re-interpret the shape of the characters into forms in clay that can engage different parts of the body. Her aim is to create a ‘physical workout’ guidebook that engage the body in different ways. Throughout her residency, Mabel will transform the CAAF studio into an active and interactive playground space where visitors of all ages will be invited to come play.

Mabel is a Calgary based artist from Singapore who graduated from AUarts (formerly the Alberta College of Art and Design) with a Ceramics degree in 2017.
