Candace and Kerry
CAAF Residency, May – June 2023
Candace and Kerry work collaboratively on artworks ranging from public installations to small, intimate works. Their multi-disciplinary approach tends to examine the impacts humans have on nature, the environment, and each other. Driven by a desire to deconstruct these complex connections, their works aims to expose these intricate relationships in a relatable and compelling way.
During this residency, the artists delved into the aesthetics of fibre, exploring rich patterns, textures, and a tactile experience. They experimented with form and the play between shadow and colour. Sewing meticulously by hand and machine, a variety of fibre materials were used to create artworks that study and are inspired by the landscapes and organic material that surround us. The works draw upon a sense of something familiar and yet, are entirely unknown. These reimagined landscape works evoke a tactile experience and create wonder for what is known and unknown.
