Fiona Duffy is an artist with roots in Treaty 7 & Treaty 4 territory. Drawing on her lived experience with chronic illness and queerness, Duffy’s paintings are preoccupied with the psychological states of the fallible body, and the broader human condition of abject experience. Working in diluted layers of oil paint against unyielding transparent plastic, Duffy’s self-portraits explore the disconnect of the physical and psychological as distinctions of bodily borders collapse into pigment. With the additional interplay of light and shadow, discontinuum embodies disrupted perceptions of self as a consequence of a body that fails.
